Lanzarote, Canary Islands (1995...)

Sweden //

Lanzarote is Manrique Island. Not only that, but a lot more. It's the most interesting (lots of people say boring) volcanic Island I've seen so far. Although Lanzarote is a 'Tourism Island' like all of the Canary Islands, it's one of the few places where I can spend two weeks in a row without getting bored. Tourism and Lanzarote fit together, you even find 'Expats' from the Spanish Mainland living here.

Sports: the climate on Lanzarote is ideal for cycling, many people come down here to train for cycling events in Europe. Thermic winds give hang-gliders very good conditions for their sport (ha, and for me perfect conditions for flying kites). Hiking is not terribly exciting but possible. Windsurfing is quite popular in some spots, too.
